The 2015 Honda CR-V is a top-shelf SUV that offers good technology and safety features and stands as a class leader in both fuel economy and cargo space. Its four trim levels are deliciously packed with everything one needs in a reliable compact (almost midsize) SUV. Here’s a further look.

Step Inside: The CR-V offers a practical interior with a traditional design in front and an abundance of space in back for passengers, as well as cargo. Space in front is also good and provides a sense of openness and great visibility. The soft-touch dashboard inserts with simulated stitching provide a premium vibe. There are several small cubbies, plus other storage bins to store all of your stuff, and there are also two cup holders for drinks. Behind the CR-V’s rear seats, you’ll get 35.2-cubic feet, but with rear seats folded, this number explodes to 70.9 - a top figure in its segment.

LX: The base-level LX is anything but basic, with a full list of standard equipment and features. Wheels are 16-inch steel, accessories are powered, steering wheel is tilt-and-telescoping, and driver seat is height adjustable. Rear seats recline and are split-folding with trunk-mounted release handles. Technology perks, include: Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity and a four-speaker sound system with CD player, auxiliary audio jack, iPod/USB audio interface, and Pandora Internet radio compatibility.

EX: When you step up to the CR-V’s EX trim, you’ll gain many more features and technology perks. It boasts keyless entry and ignition, automatic headlights with LED running lights, foglights, and sunroof. The driver seat gets more comfort with eight-way power adjustability; front seats are also heated for a luxury vibe. Technology enhancements include a seven-inch touchscreen and six-speaker sound system with extra USB port. Safety gets a boost with Honda’s LaneWatch system that equips the CR-V with a blind-spot monitoring system with a camera that shows the passenger-side blind spot; there are also excellent guidelines for the rear view camera.

EX-L: Jump to the EX-L and you’ll add even more niceties to the EX. Tacked onto this trim is an auto-dimming rearview mirror, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, heated side mirrors, and roof rails. It also gets a seven-speaker sound system and satellite radio.

Touring: The Touring stands at the top of the 2015 CR-V lineup and marks the best of the best. It’s equipped with 18-inch wheels, projector beam headlights, power liftgate, and adaptive cruise control. Safety gear includes forward-collision mitigation and lane-departure warning systems. Electronics gain HD radio and navigation system.

Safety: Not only is the CR-V full of great features, but it also provides excellent standard equipment. Standard equipment includes: antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags, and rearview camera.

As mentioned previously, the Touring trim comes standard with a forward-collision mitigation system and a lane-departure warning system. Together, these systems can distinguish between vehicles and pedestrians, warn the driver accordingly, and apply automatic-braking intervention to reduce the severity of a collision.
