The Used Pilot: a must-pick for comfort, space, and above-average fuel economy

It’s not always easy to find the right size vehicle. Compact sedans can be too cramped, while huge SUV’s can just feel monstrous. What about choosing something in the middle? The Pilot is a midsize crossover SUV that offers a comfortable ride, roomy third-row seating, and above-average fuel economy. Sounds good, right?

2013 brought many things to the Pilot, like Honda’s HandsFree Link Bluetooth connection for smart phones and music players, rearview camera, and revised interior center-stack with eight-inch screen. But that’s not all it includes. Continue reading to learn more.

Trims:

LX: The LX sits at the base of the Pilot line. It comes equipped with 17-inch steel wheels, automatic headlights, full power accessories, and cruise control. Technology includes an eight-inch center-display screen, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, and rearview camera. There is also a seven-speaker sound system with CD player, USB iPod interface, and auxiliary audio jack.

EX: The EX trim adds onto the base L with a handful of extras. Some include: foglights, heated mirrors, and eight-way power driver seat with two-way power lumbar adjustability.

EX-L: If you find yourself with the Pilot’s EX-L trim, you’ll get plenty of nice features. The EX-L gains leather upholstery, sunroof, power liftgate, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and satellite radio. Front seats are heated and the front passenger seat is powered.

The used EX-L just might come with some of the Pilot’s optional features of 2013. These include a rear-seat entertainment system and voice-activated navigation system.

Touring: If you get the Pilot in the Touring trim, you’ll get all top-of-the-line equipment and features. The Touring comes with the optional features of the EX-L, plus adds even more, like roof rails, parking sensors, driver-seat memory functions, and 10-speaker premium sound system.

Step Inside: When you step into the Camry, you’ll find an interior designed to suite your needs, from thoughtful details to clear, easy-to-use instruments. All models include an eight-inch information screen for radio and more. While third-row seating is typically too small for adults, the Pilot’s third row offers plenty of space. When the Pilot’s second and third-row seats are stowed, there is 87-cubic feet of cargo space. While this number is lower than average, the Pilot’s boxy shape works to its advantage by allowing the storage of bulkier items.

Power: The Pilot is equipped with adequate power with its 3.5-liter V6 engine paired to a five-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, however, there is optional AWD that shifts up to 70 percent of power to the rear wheels if tires begin to slip. Also included on the Pilot is a driver-selectable ‘lock’ feature, which pushes maximum torque to the rear wheels when in first- or second gear in order to help free the vehicle if stuck in mud, snow, etc.
