For a reliable used car that’s worth your investment - and is even fun to drive! - opt for the Honda Civic. Continue reading to learn what you’ll get with this great ride.
DX: The Civic’s DX trim serves up just the basics with 15-inch wheels, power windows, height-adjustable driver seat, and tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. While there is no stereo included on this model, the previous owner more-than-likely opted for the DX Value package, which equips this trim with a four-speaker CD/MP3 audio system and auxiliary audio jack.
LX: The LX adds onto the DX trim with larger 16-inch steel wheels, keyless entry, full power accessories, and cruise control. There is also a center console with sliding armrest for added comfort and storage.
LX-S: If you get the Civic in the LX-S trim, you’ll get some nice sport features, like chrome exhaust outlet, rear spoiler, and sport front seats. Steering wheel is leather and wheels are bumped from steel to alloy.
EX: For more luxury items, the EX includes a sunroof, six-speaker sound system with steering-wheel-mounted audio controls and USB input. It also has ambient console lighting.
EX-L: The EX-L adds some heat with heated exterior mirrors and front seats, plus has full leather upholstery.
Si: The Civic Si is made for the driving enthusiast due to its sporty, upbeat nature. It includes all of the features from the EX trim, but boasts a more powerful engine, sport-tuned suspension, 17-inch alloy wheels, foglights, sport seats, and special interior trim.
GX and Hybrid: While the GX mimics that of the LX in features, the Hybrid is equipped similarly to the EX and gains automatic climate control.
Safety: Good safety equipment, high safety scores, reliability - check, check, check! The Civic has it all. Standard safety equipment includes, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, active front head restraints, and antilock brakes. While rear drum brakes are standard, the EX and Si have four-wheel disc brakes. The EX-L, Hybrid, and Si are also equipped with stability control.
In government crash tests, the Civic received a perfect five stars in frontal impacts. In side impacts, it got four stars for front passenger protection and five stars for rear passengers.
The IIHS gave the Civic sedan the top rating of ôGood in frontal-offset and side-impact tests. The coupe received an ôAcceptable rating (second best).
Power: The Civic comes standard with front-wheel drive and adequately powered engines. Under the hood of the DX, LX, and EX, you’ll find a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine paired to either the standard five-speed manual transmission or the optional five-speed automatic transmission. While manuals tend to be quicker, the automatic is just as sufficient.
A 1.8-liter engine is also found in Civics in the GX trim. However, these models are fueled by compressed natural gas.
The Civic Hybrid model is equipped with a gasoline/electric hybrid powertrain to maximize fuel economy. The engine is a 1.3-liter four-cylinder paired to a CVT.
The Civic Si is by far the peppiest due to its 2.0-liter engine paired to a six-speed manual transmission.
